Not a lot of browns local to Portland but we do make up for it with Chrome colored fish. It is handy to have a spey rod on lots of the rivers up here but very now and then I love the simplicity of a 9wt single hand rod.

Brian, it's been great reading about the truckee and those damn big trout. I don't know I would be able to move from here but you will find fish that will take a fly, it's in you. The Columbia might be the ticket for you. Check out http://www.carponthefly.blogspot.com I know I would be fishing that thing often.

Welcome to Portland and we're happy to have ya! We may not have the Truckee, but I think the Deschutes, McKenzie, Metolius, Clackamas, Sandy, and a handful of lakes will fill every need you have. If that still doesn't work, then a days drive puts you onto some additional adventurous trout waters in Oregon and S/SE Washington.

As much as I will miss fishing with you on the Truckee and debating about where and when to fish I have to say im glad to hear you are making the move to Portland, the experience you will gain not only as an angler but as a person will be well worth it. As you do with everything in your life from tying some of the most consistent and creative fly’s I have ever seen to helping me dig my dumb-ass out of the pit I dug at pyramid im sure you will do great. I hope to fish with you at least a few more times before you move up to Portland, let me know if you have some free time before you go.

Congratulations Brian! Man, Reno to Portland should be a shock to the system as far as weather goes. I'm sure there's got to be some trout streams near Portland (skip the crowds fumbling after the big fish and go with the little creek fishing). Dang, I was hoping to hook up with you on the Truckee next year - bummer. Good luck with the new job - I hope everything works out well for you.
