On the truckee a small prince nymph seems to work most of the winter when fishing the slow water. Here's a few variations that have been successful for me-- all tied on a #14 TMC 3769-- which is a short, heavy hook that makes for about a #16 sized fly. So far the hotwire prince is my favorite.
From L to R:
3x ice dub prince, 3x hotwire prince, 3x lightning prince
3x ice dub prince, 3x hotwire prince, 3x lightning prince
I also have a few "ultra princes" tied up but haven't given them a try yet.

do you have instructions on the lightning prince?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: the body of the fly you see above is pearl mylar tinsel with a green wire rib and colored with a green sharpie. The marker rubs off quickly and fly still works so I would either stick with the pearl or would use green flashabou.
ReplyDeletethe thorax is peacock black ice dub and the legs are speckled hen.
hope that helps!
