Ice Dub Stone

Sorry for the long interval in blogging-- it's not that I haven't been tying or fishing-- just slacking on the blog. The good news is that I've graduated, passed the FE exam and just got new waders that don't have a leaky crotch-- an awesome b-day present from my family! Until I take the time to write about the fishing, I want to leave you with a pattern I tied up on a whim that has produced pretty well for me-- in fact for this winter this has become my go-to lead fly. I'm sure I ripped the design off from someone else but I don't know who... so I'll just call it the ice dub stone. I've also tied it in black/peacock but haven't fished it yet. Hope you like it:

Ice dub stone:

**Edit: Here's the untested version tied

  1. Great looking pattern! Make sure you give us an update on how it fishes.

  2. Good to hear from you Brian! Sweet little pattern! Have you guys been as dry as we have? Looks like a storm brewing though (probably hitting you now). With high temps in the mid-teens, I've been wussing out the past month and haven't been on the water. Think I need to get out soon though.

  3. Scott: we've been getting rain pretty regularly (or actually irregularly for this area). Temps have also been pretty mild and guys have been catching some HUGE brown trout-- alas I've been busy with family stuff and I also messed my ankle up playing raquetball so I didn't make it out this last week.

As for temps in the teens-- that's pretty dang cold-- I might wuss out a lot too. We had temps like that here and it caused a LOT of ice-- I waited until the highs were at least 20's and 30's-- but an upswing like that after a really cold spell makes for awesome fishing!

    good luck

  4. Anonymous: thanks! the golden brown version for sure catches fish (my success with it prompted me to post it), and I'll try to update on the other colors
