This last holiday season I spent a lot of time at my fly tying bench only I wasn't tying very many flies! The skills I've learned in tying flies have turned out to be useful for gift crafting this year for my wife and her friends. It's also great anytime I get a chance to give gifts to a fellow fly fisherman-- cheap plano boxes filled with a dozen or more carefully crafted flies is a gift that feels damn good to give away (especially when I'm positive they'll produce fish for a person). But beside the gift box you see above, earrings were the ticket for gifts this year, and a few trips to a craft store with a stop at the fly shop gave me the materials to design and craft these:

Those are some sweet pieces...never occurred to me to use my fly tying skills for good. Which probably explains why I'm in the dog-house so much.
