winter fitchin.

I haven't made it out on the truckee much lately due to school, work, blah blah blah. (In fact I'm procrastinating in the computer lab as I type...) But essentially winter conditions are in place. The fish won't move much right now and I personally don't waste much time on water that doesn't look like prime stuff. I wouldn't say the fishing is spectacular (well thats a matter of perspective) but the few fish I've pulled in lately have been well worth it. These two fish are from my last two outings on the river and I keep forgetting the camera so I've resorted to the cell phone.

20" fatty taken on a #14 prince nymph--
with the awkward ninja turtle grip (I was trying to stand
the fish up to how how tall it was):

A feisty 18"er taken on a #12 red CJ--
despite the cold water this fish came airborne 3 or 4 times

Well hopefully before too long I'll be grajinated from school and then I'll be able to just fish and play my guitar for the rest of my life-- right?

Grabbing the camera is the last thing on your mind when you're running to the river to fish, hard to snap a cell phone picture when you're hands are wet too! I saw some fish surfacing just yesterday around noon, there was a BWO hatch and they were hovering all over the surface of the water, I couldn't nymph em' the water had a ton of debris in it, at least that was my excuse to myself why I didn't catch anything. Tried any dries?

When you get that fishing and guitar playing for the rest of your life thing figured out, clue the rest of us in!

Nice fish Brian!

Those are some healthy looking fish you got up there in the Sierras. Good thing they have you to get them to exercise.

Love it when they go airborne - hate it when they pop the hook in the process!

Good to see your out in the cooler weather. How cold does it get down there at its worst? Are you allowed to fish year round? Rainbows spawn in the spring, is there an off season?

Fish look damn good as usual, keep yourself going.

Here in Reno it will get down into the teens pretty regularly and occasionally it will drop well below zero (fahrenheit). There are definitely chunks of ice floating around in the river each morning with the nights being in the low 20s.

And the river is open year round with no off-season
