For all who may stumble here:
Mostly I started this blog because most of the people that read my personal blog don't really fish... and most the people that want to read about fish don't want to sort through my reflections on life, music, spirituality, politics and entertainment... you get the idea.
Well, I guess I oughta' introduce myself-- I'm a 26 year old married guy who is completely obsessed with catching fish... particularly trout. I was introduced to fly fishing in jr. high but didn't really get into it until the summer of '08-- I mean we're talking a 9-10 year hiatus from picking up a fly rod (and I had only tried it a handful of times). This ultimately means I'm a fly fishing noob, but I've been pretty well immersed in it since '08 and have picked up a fair amount of experience.
These experiences have led me to proclaim that I hope never to be any sort of "purist" or elitist when it comes to fishing-- I simply like to catch fish and so far fly fishing has been by FAR the most productive method I've found. However I'm certainly not above picking up my spinning rod and slinging rubbery things for bass or even worms for ice fishing, though fly fishing is what I've come to enjoy most. I also don't like holding onto too many secrets when it comes to catching fish-- to me fishing is partly about swapping stories and information about when, what, where-- it's how we learn, how we grow in this sport. Heck, it's how we got into it in the first place, right? I like to give flies away that are working, I like to show people on google maps where I've been going and what kind of water I've been fishing, I like to blog about what's been working for me. I like to hear other peoples' tactics and perspectives-- it's what keeps it fresh. I also release most my fish but every so often I keep a chunk of meat or two just to keep things into perspective-- I think it's the natural instinct to capture and provide that gets us so excited every time we get a fish to hand, and... well, let's just say that ruminations upon the cycle of life isn't complete without including death.
Well that's about it-- this blog took quite a while to get up and running-- mostly due to cold-arse weather, a broken truck, and a partially finished engineering degree that has been hampering things. But let's get this thing off the ground! Feel free to make any comments about functionality or suggestions on things to add. I'm going to try and keep up with my fishing pursuits but I'd also love to post other people's reports, flies, stories and pictures from the northern nevada/sierra mountain area if anyone wants to contribute!!
cheers.

it would seem we have much in common. your choice in music is even up my alley according to your myspace, I don't do myspace but i took a minute. Man, the monster brown on Sept. 11th, when I catch mine like that I will be the winner too! take care man
ReplyDeleteright on-- I rarely use my myspace anymore-- it's been ages since I've updated anything-- including that list of music (which, it turns out, has attracted more solicitation than anything else)
ReplyDeleteI hope you catch a fish like that so you can be a weenner. It was a surreal event-- i hadn't even been fly fishing for very long when I caught that beast-- I was by myself and wanted to somehow record the experience. I was fumbling around taking crappy pictures with one hand thinking "what the hell do I do?" when I finally flagged down some rafters to take my picture... anyways...
later man
